You Talked. We Listened. Here's What Changed.
Before I Forget — February 2026
We launched Before I Forget to a small group of beta testers just over a week ago. Within 24 hours, we had feedback. Within 48 hours, we were shipping fixes.
Here's what our testers told us, and what we changed.
"This Create a version feature is amazing — but I couldn't find it!"
The ability to take a single memory and re-tell it as a short speech, a letter to grandchildren, or a detailed memoir chapter — testers who found it loved it. But almost nobody found it on their own.
We rethought the entire flow. Now, the moment you read your polished story, you'll see a clear prompt: Make this story yours. Choose from quick presets — a 3-minute speech, a letter to family, a longer narrative — or set your own audience, length, and tone. Every version is saved alongside the original, clearly labelled.
We call these renditions — different tellings of the same memory, each shaped for a different moment.
"Can I mention names? Where does this end up?"
An early tester paused mid-conversation to ask whether their stories were truly private. It's the most important question anyone could ask.
We expanded privacy messaging across the platform. Every conversation now opens with a clear reassurance that your stories are encrypted and private. The landing page explains that your data is stored in Australia, encrypted at rest, and never used to train AI models. We're also building a dedicated Trust Centre — because earning trust with your most personal stories isn't a one-line job.
"I'd rather just talk."
Not everyone wants to type. For longer, richer stories, talking is more natural.
We added a Speak button directly inside the conversation. Tap it, talk, and your words are transcribed instantly. You can review and edit before sending. For longer recordings — say, a 20-minute conversation with a parent — you can upload audio files and we'll extract the stories from within.
We also added step-by-step recording instructions for every device, because not everyone grew up with a smartphone in their hand.
"How do I save it?"
Several testers had great conversations and weren't sure what happened next. "Download" meant nothing. The icon was easy to miss.
We replaced the tech language with plain language. "Download" became Save to my device. We added Print this story. After every conversation reaches a natural resting point, we prompt you to save before you leave.
Exported files are now properly formatted too — clean layout, readable fonts, something worth printing.
"I have boxes of old letters and documents."
Document upload was already there, but we sharpened it. Upload scanned letters, PDFs, Word documents, or plain text files. We extract the content and polish it just like a conversation. Combined with voice recordings, photos, and typed conversations, your memories can come from anywhere.
"Can I attach a photo?"
Now you can. Upload photos to any story with captions. The photo sits alongside the story it belongs to.
Under the Hood
Beyond the visible features, we fixed a range of bugs that only surface when real people use a real product — login edge cases, save errors, navigation quirks, mobile layout issues. Every fix made the platform more reliable.
We also added a bug report button (the 🐛 in the corner of your dashboard) so you can flag anything that doesn't feel right. And on our Roadmap page, you can see what we're building next — and share your own ideas through our AI-powered suggestion box.
What's Next
Story organisation, collaborative features for families, and a dedicated experience for people who need to prepare speeches and stories for different audiences.
Start with one memory. Just one.
Before I Forget is in beta. If you have feedback, we'd love to hear from you at hello@beforeiforget.com.au.
